Working in partnership with Land Landscape Architecture, Natural Habitats was engaged to bring the gardens to life including shared communal areas and villa gardens for residents to enjoy. The brief called for a landscape that would provide a sense of safety, calm and character, whilst incorporating the practical requirements of access, privacy and year-round interest with plant species.
While somewhat of a blank canvas, the site presented challenges in the form of climate conditions. In summer, plants need to be able to thrive in long, dry, hot summers while in the depths of winter the ground freezes and experiences snow.
Working with Land Landscape Architects, Natural Habitats refined the planting selection not only to survive in the extremes but capture the essence of the exotic showcase of the region. The result is a year-round presentation of colour and texture for residents to enjoy.
The landscape installation included excavation and backfilling of garden beds with conditioned topsoil, lawns, plant procurement and planting, mulching, dry stacked stone walls, tree pits, mailboxes and other minor hard landscaping elements.
Our work to date on site has been highly acclaimed by the client and Landscape Architects. Our ability to communicate, negotiate and provide project management capacity has proven highly valuable given the number of invested parties from construction through to the residents, all of which require a high degree of care and coordination. The post-COVID delay has also meant installing landscapes through the harsh Arrowtown winter where again our guidance and experience has resulted in practical, cost effective outcomes.
