With several key locations in Auckland, Auckland University of Technology spans multiple acres of prime property with diverse landscape features requiring regular maintenance. AUT holds a strong national and international reputation, boasting New Zealand's highest percentage of international students. Recognizing this prestige, AUT partnered with Natural Habitats for the care of its central and south campus landscapes.
Designed to enhance the learning experience and create a sense of belonging, the landscape features protected native trees and predominantly native plants. This plant selection thrives in wet winters and hot summers, reflecting the local natural environment.
A dedicated team of two landscapers maintains these landscapes. They conduct detailed garden work, plant health checks, seasonal mulching, soil management, and pruning. The central campus lawns also receive weekly care.
Operating within a public and student-oriented setting posed challenges. To minimize disruption, battery-powered tools replaced traditional ones, and maintenance schedules were adjusted to quiet periods. This approach ensures top-notch maintenance without inconveniencing students and staff.
