The Home of the Year awards is an annual programme that celebrates the country’s best new homes and comes with a $10k prize for the overall winner. With multiple categories from City to Rural and Multi-unit, the awards are reflective of expressions of architectural thought and the unique intersection between a client's brief and the designer’s vision.
Adorned with a colourful, thriving green roof and green wall, the home of our Remuera Rooftop garden and green wall has been named a finalist for 2023 City Home of the Year.
The home itself is a 20 year labour of love and breathtaking transformation of a 1950’s abode. Designed by BVA Studios, the home features a beautiful array of natural materials from timber to copper and concrete.
The client appointed Natural Habitats to add the finishing touches to the property, which included a green roof and green wall to mask a concrete wall view from the master bedroom.
“The green roof and green wall are beautiful examples of how our green technology can be used in the home setting,” says Auckland Regional Manager, Tom McCarthy. “Green walls and green roofs have significant benefits for the environment and it’s encouraging to see it used more often in the residential sector.”
The winners will be announced at the award evening in April 2023.
